Coding NaNo?

Posted by: elz

So I was thinking the other day about whether it would be practical/useful to try to do something like a coding version of NaNoWriMo, where people would aim to start and finish a reasonably ambitious project in the month of November. It could be anything - a site, an app, a utility, a new CSS front-end for a site, a major feature you've been wanting to implement. Obviously coding works a bit differently from novel-writing, but it can still be rewarding to resolve to build something or learn something you might have been putting off and be able to hit your goal within a set period of time.

Would anybody else be interested in something like that?

comments

Intro post

Posted by: elz

Greetings!

A few words of introduction: fandom is full of awesomely talented people, and fans have been making websites, archives and other tools for ourselves and each other for decades now. A lot of us are tech types in some respect: coders, designers, sysadmins; hobbyists and professionals. After the recent shake-ups with Delicious, there were a lot of conversations about building our own system, and it occurred to me that while Dreamwidth and AO3 both have their own dev communities and there are a myriad of tech sites on the internet, we don't really have a place within fandom for people to pool their knowledge, brainstorm about projects, and <del>plot world domination</del> generally keep in touch with one another.

So, here goes! Feel free to introduce yourselves and share a little about what you're working on or what you'd like to learn more about. Posting is currently open to anyone who joins - don't feel shy about tossing out questions or discussion topics!

comments
